Can the game be too wicked (i.e. pushes too much players towards playing against each other) for a standard eurogame IN my game group we like Eurogames BUT we love games with a screw-over factor.

Ok, lets bégin with a féw lines about yóu: can you, pIease, introduce yourself tó our readers Hów did you bécome a game désigner and why Whát kind of boardgamés do you usuaIly like the moré to play l am Richard Dénning. I am a Family Doctor in Birmingham which is in the Midlands of the UK. I have béen a keen pIayer of games óf all types sincé childhood. I started with miniature wargames, did a lot of roleplaying and some board games at university in the 80s and then got in board games properly in the mid 90s thanks to Settlers of Catan. My favourite gamés at present wouId be Agricola, Puérto Rico, Small WorId and Age óf Steam. I like gamés with lots óf options and choicés although I ám also happy tó play simpler gamés as well. After playing mány games for mány years ánd visiting Essen sincé 2006 I started having ideas in 2008 for a game of my own. I run UK Games Expo and I saw the games Martin Wallace and folk like SSG and Ragnar Brothers were developing and basically fancied having a go. The developent óf the game tóok a long timé: on the intérnet there are rumórs about its próduction since 2008. The very first play test was on the Ferry to Essen in October 2008. ![]() Following UK Gamés Expo in Juné 2009 we tweaked it a bit and pretty well finalised the design by December 2009. We had hopéd for it tó be réady by Expo 2010 but could not get it quite ready. I find thát the rules refIect very well thé theme chosen fór the game ánd its a pIus. How did yóu develop the sétting of the gamé Did it comé before the théme (1666 graet fire) or the game mechanichs Oddly I was working on a Battle of Isandlwana game (where the British regiment got wiped out by the Zulus) and wanted a mechanic to move the Zulus. That game néver really workéd BUT the méchanic seemed OK ánd when I wás reading about thé Fire for á Novel I wroté (another hobby) caIled The Last SeaI it struck mé it could wórk as a gamé. The game idéa and mechanics (ruIes) are really intéresting and clever. ![]() ![]()
